Mission & Vision

The Mask-wa Oo-ta-ban Bear Train is on a mission...

To support the social, economic, employment and development needs of the First Nations, communities, businesses and people of the Algoma region by providing safe, effective, efficient, reliable and affordable railway passenger services.

To provide remote communities long-term, safe access to inter-community travel.

To connect local businesses–such as commercial lodges, outfitters, and mining/forestry industries–with the transportation services needed for customers, supplies, maintenance, and employee travel.

To achieve an expression of reconciliation with the four First Nations whose members live in this region and whose ancestral lands are dependent on the train for access to and from other parts of Canada.

To make it easier for tourists to participate in the developing  tourism markets, such as the Indigenious Tourism Market, Group of Seven Tourism Market, and Francophone tourism.

To create opportunities for outdoor adventurists such as snowmobilers, canoeists, anglers, hunters, backpackers, and ice/rock climbers along the rail line.

To be a viable option for the Accessible Tourism Market for persons with disabilities and seniors by offering safe, reliable, and accessible travel.

To promote environmentally committed tourism for those seeking less polluting forms of transportation.

We follow and support the mission of Transport Canada:

To serve the public interest through the promotion of a safe and secure, efficient and environmentally responsible transportation system in Canada.

Our Vision

A multi-modal transportation strategy for Algoma with connections to the rest of Ontario for both freight and people that will provide effective, efficient year-round transportation, sustain and support the broadest social and economic needs, while enhancing public safety and addressing long- term environmental responsibilities.
